My Disclaimer & Faith

When I was conceptualizing this site, my goal FIRST and FOREMOST was to bring glory to God.  One of my most FAVORITE verses is Psalm 126:3, which was on our wedding invitation:

The Lord has done great things for us and we are filled with joy!

As a professing Christian and active member of our Presbyterian church, it was important to me to be able to apply my knowledge and experiences in such a way that does not give credit to anyone other than Christ.   Sometimes I feel like I am a walking example of the verse below and totally unworthy of having anyone read my mental wanderings:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

2 Corinthians 12:9

But because of the One that lives in me, I know I can do all things, so I’ll just keep on typing! :o)

I call this page my “disclaimer & faith” page because, while I am firm in my belief in Christ, I know that I live in a world that isn’t.  That doesn’t mean that I can’t learn and glean valuable information from others who do not share my same faith.

I have known many fellow believers who seem to think that, if they boycott or even slander non-believing people and companies because they don’t act like Christians, this brings glory to the Lord.  I actively try to support many Christian owned businesses, but at the same time, I realize that it’s just not possible to totally cut myself off from the world in which I live and ONLY do business  or associate with other Christians.

We have to constantly remind ourselves that non-Christians will not act in a way that aligns with our beliefs and it is foolish for us to hold them to that standard.  Sheesh, not even WE can always act in ways that align with our own beliefs!  How silly to think the secular would could!  :o)

Certainly, that is not how Christ lived.  Now, I’m not going to get all theological…I am NOT a theologian and don’t wish to be thought of one, either.  I just want to be 100% transparent and honest about what you will find on this site.

(Here comes the “disclaimer” part!)

The opinions and beliefs of the people and products I promote and link to from this site may or may not be opinions and beliefs that I share or endorse.  If a product or person is being promoted on this site, it means I either have a good working relationship with this person or I have tried and used the product and wanted to pass along a valuable resource or it’s something I discovered and wanted to share.

I encourage you to do your “due diligence’ when using materials to teach your children and yourself!  Anywhere you go, you will find a wide range of resources from a wide range of people.   I’ve heard excellent and sound financial teaching from secular sources and Christian sources.  Likewise, I’ve seen products put out by Christian AND secular families and companies that I wouldn’t take even if it was free!

(I heard the most self-righteous, self-glorifying audio once by a homeschool mom and her children that literally made me want to scream, “Get REAL!!  That is NOT REAL LIFE!!!!”  Just thinking about it makes me mad, but I digress…)

It is so apparent to me that God doesn’t only make his chosen people smart!  I know I have made more than my fair share of really DUMB decisions and I know everyone else has, too!  I have seen many misguided and widely accepted teachings by fellow Christians.  I try to  read EVERYTHING, even if it’s by a Christian author, with my “feelers out” to see if what they say does or does not go against the Bible.

For example, I don’t know the faith of one of the smartest financial teachers of our time, Robert Kiyosaki.  His books on financial intelligence have been instrumental in changing how my husband and I see our financial lives and encouraged us to take a leap of faith and go on this entrepreneurial adventure we’re on.

I can’t call him “wise” in the Biblical sense, but he sure does know a lot more about financial matters than I do!  There are things he teaches that I don’t agree with, but I am still able to learn from him without compromising my faith.

It is not my place to try and judge the faith of those I deal with in business or in life.  What I try to do is glean the valuable information people have to share and leave the “junk” or their “philosophies” behind.

Whew!  That’s pretty heavy talk for me.  I can never stay serious for too long.  I know this might ruffle some feathers, but I want this to be “out there” so I don’t get a bunch of nasty emails from people e-yelling at me because I am promoting a product from someone who isn’t a Christian.

I just don’t have time for junk like that in my life.  If I want to hear someone fuss at me, I can take a toy away from our toddler or tell my 4 year old she needs to take a nap! :o)

I encourage you to listen and read everything, whether on my site or not, as if you were passing it through a colander.  Let the stuff you don’t want just fall through the holes and learn from what is left behind.  :o)  If you feel like you only want to learn from other Christians, I totally encourage you to do so, but it probably won’t be from my site.  Please feel free to send me any resources you find because I’d be glad to know about them!
