The Art of Boredom
"It is ok for kids to be a little bored from time to time."
That is the overall assessment a new friend and I came to while chatting in the car the other day. It's not often I spend time with other moms, practically one on one, but our conversations inevitably revolve around our children or child rearing. We were talking about escaping from the "rush, push, consume" mentality that so many of us have become part of, often without knowing it. Getting into another culture has taken us both away from it and given us an interesting perspective on the topic.
Bullying and Homeschooling
Have you had to deal with bullying as a homeschooler? I’m sure there are MANY families who began their homeschool journeys as a result from bullying at school, but I think, as a rule, most homeschool families don’t deal with bullies on a regular basis.
But in the past couple days, my email inbox has been filling up with messages from our local homeschool group about some children who have come home from “Park Days” with bruises and minor injuries as a result from bullying. Apparently, there are a few rowdy boys who think it is fun to hit and poke other children with sticks and “light sabers” while playing.
