Look at what an 8 yr old can do!
Did you know I am a published author? Yep. Well, on Kindle I am. I actually have 10 titles on my virtual bookshelf for Kindle (2 aren't live), I have another finished and waiting to upload and another in the works. I am really nothing special…if I can do it, anyone can do it.
Here's a screen shot of my account…I did black out the titles and ASIN numbers for privacy.
4 Lessons I Learned from Sending My Children to School
Last week, I stepped into very new and very uncomfortable territory: 3 of our 5 children went to school.
Before you think I've lost my marbles or have "seen the light" that public education is good for children (what light?), let me explain.
We are in Mexico. Yes, Mexico, the country, not New Mexico, but the "dangerous" country that makes the news for drug wars and violence. Except we haven't seen ANYTHING here like that propoganda on TV. But I digress…
Is Math Becoming Obsolete?
According to a recent article on Huffington Post, the need for upper level, ie. college, math is becoming obsolete in the US.
Now, all you homeschool moms that dread teaching (or even grading) math beyond grade 7 can breathe a bit easier. Well, sort of.
The author points out that almost every skill that used to be needed in industries like computer science, engineering, etc. for designing software and those types of things, are now being outsourced to countries like China and India. And for good reason. The people that live there massively outnumber our college educated work force AND are willing to do these technical skills at a fraction of the cost a US based employee would do them.
Making New Friends
(Last week, I did a last minute post asking you to send me a snapshot of your homeschooling day for an upcoming blog post. Little did I know how insanely crazy my week would be. So…I'm going to extend this for another week. If you have a photo you'd like me to include, send it my way no later than Feb 17th and I'll be glad to post it.)
Homeschool Photo of the Day FUN!
ATTENTION: Tomorrow, Friday Feb 3rd, I am conducting a little experiment called "Your Homeschool Photo of the Day."
It's SUPER easy to participate. Simply take a photo (just one) of something that happens tomorrow. Could be the kids doing school, you making lunch, dance class, sitting in the car, snuggling on the sofa, anything "G" rated.
Then, upload it here on this Facebook page (or your own and link to the Mrs Homeschool Facebook page) or send it to my email (support-at-mrshomeschool-dot-com). I'll compile all the pics into a neat blog post for all to see. And if you have a website, I'll even post a link to it…and you can link back to mine, if you like. Get your cameras ready!
