Happy ThanksGIVING!

Thanksgiving sneaked up on me this year.  Must have something to do with the lack of commercials and marketing in stores to remind me.  Funny how, when you take away all of those influences, coupled with a lack of fall weather (at least "fall weather" we're used to), holidays seem to jump at you when you don't expect them.

This year, our family is thankful for many different things than we normal are.  We're thankful for an opportunity to live out a dream…thankful for semi-sweet chocolate chips, even if they are about $4.50-5.00 a bag.

I REFUSE to teach my children Latin

If you've been a long time reader, you know that I have no fondness for Latin.  And I don't make any apologies for it.  I think it is a foolish, time wasting thing to teach a child who is SO capable of learning a language, a dead language.

Yes, I've read the articles about how it teaches proper grammar, etc.  I know it's part of numerous homeschool curricula packages, but don't forget that the people that publish these books aren't just doing it because they want your children to learn Latin…they make a living doing so.  Not that there is anything wrong with selling homeschool curricula as a business, just something we often forget when people try to convince us that teaching something their way is the BEST way.  And please note that I don't have any language curricula for sale.

Simple, but Fun Things to Do with Kids

A few days back, I posed a simple question on Facebook wanting to know what others do for simple fun activities with their children.  Little did I know that the first time I tried to type it out, I'd hit some funny button and delete the whole post.  Grrr…

It was all in God's plan because our family has had to figure out MORE ways to have fun inside this week.  We're at the tail end of the wet season here in Costa Rica and it has literally been raining about 95% of the time since last Sunday.  Talk about SERIOUS cabin fever!

Yesterday was one of those days you hope to never repeat.  My littlest princess and I were going to San Jose, Costa Rica to look into some paperwork and everything took SO much longer than expected.  The government officials seemed to make everything MUCH more complicated than it needed to be.  We spent too much time just searching for what we needed and, in the end, we spent money we didn't need to spend and came home tired and frustrated.  (Well, she didn't, but I sure did!)

Weekend Updates!

I'm going to try SUPER hard to be short and sweet since it IS the weekend. :)

I've just setup a page for you to hear an AWESOME interview I did recently with a stay at home mom of 4 who has a business selling a very interesting product on eBay.  I won't spoil the surprise.  You'll have to go here to listen:
