Question about Homeschool Schedules

As I’ve been planning our homeschool schedule for the coming year, I got to thinking that I *may* be biting off more than I should.  So my question to you is, do you start of the year with too much on your schedule and then, when you’re about burnt out, cut back?  Or do you take it slow, add on one activity at a time to keep from being overloaded?  OR do you keep going at full throttle, even when life seems to get too busy? I’d love to know your thoughts.

I definitely start out small and add things as we go so I don’t get overwhelmed if I’m not getting it all done. Another thing I read right before we started this year is the idea of Sabbath schooling. Basically instead of using the traditional school year, we are going to school for 6 weeks then take a week off. Doing it this way will hopefully prevent burnout. This will equal 42 weeks, so 10 weeks to spread out – 3 or 4 at Christmas; an extra week for a vacation and then 5-6 weeks over summer. Or I’m thinking the last 3 weeks I’ll spread out by schooling 3 days a week. I read this in Home Educating Family magazine. Article written by Angelina Stanford.

I really think it will make a huge difference in our schooling and can’t wait to share with others too.

Come on, Susan, I was hoping YOU would have the magic answer to this question! I am wondering the same thing. =O)

Also, do you schedule specific blocks or “classes” in the schedule for the kids to work on their businesses, or do they do that in their spare time?

    Susan,
What an interesting concept! I’d never heard of that. I’d love to get an update later on in the year of how it’s going. :o)

Oh, Savannah…no magic answers here! LOL! My oldest is the only one that seems to have that entrepreneurial drive and she does things in her spare time. It IS a good idea to schedule blocks to keep the momentum going.
