Do you “overdo” and then undo?

As I’ve been planning our homeschool schedule for the coming year, I got to thinking that I *may* be biting off more than I should.

So my question to you is, do you start of the year with too much on your schedule and then, when you’re about burnt out, cut back?  Or do you take it slow, add on one activity at a time to keep from being overloaded?  OR do you keep going at full throttle, even when life seems to get too busy?

I’d love to know your thoughts.

After many, many years of homeschooling (25+), I’ve learned to plan much more effectively, so now I have a pretty good idea of what we can realistically do in the time we have. It’s also easier to predict available time, because I teach 2 kids instead of 5 or 6.

It has been my tendency to plan to do more that we have time for, especially in years past. But trial and error has shown me that everyone is much happier (including mom) if the goals are attainable without straining or feeling bogged down.

One thing that has helped is to listen to that little voice that says, “I think this might be too much,” and to listen to my own body when I start to tense up just thinking about a schedule or course of study that I’ve planned out.

    Diane…I LOVE this:

listen to my own body when I start to tense up just thinking about a schedule or course of study that I’ve planned out.

My biggest challenge right now is trying to “let go” of doing a schedule based on the hour of the day, ie. 9:00 am, 9:30 am. I want to try to do blocks of time without being tied to the clock. Not sure how well we will do, but I’m going to give it a shot! :o)
